The TOURAL project was presented at the 1st Workshop on AI Applications for Achieving the Green Deal Targets (AI4GD) during the 20th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Applications and Innovations. This event was hosted by the Ionian University in Corfu, Greece, from June 27 to June 30, 2024. Presenters included Dr. Michailidis Iakovos and Mrs. Asimina Dimara from the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), and Prof. Stelios Krinidis from the International Hellenic University (IHU).
The hybrid workshop, conducted both in-person and remotely, aimed to underscore artificial intelligence as a pivotal tool in addressing the complex challenges of environmental conservation and carbon reduction. This initiative supports the transformation of the European Union into a climate-neutral continent by 2050. Accordingly, the AI4GD Workshop strives to convene interdisciplinary approaches that focus on leveraging AI-driven solutions to achieve the Green Deal targets.
The AI-driven strategies not only support the economic diversification and sustainable development goals of the TOURAL project but also ensure that the growth of tourism in these rural areas is balanced, integrated, and sustainable. This approach aligns with the European Commission’s vision by creating smart, sustainable, and interconnected tourism offerings that preserve rural integrity while fostering economic development.
The insights and outcomes from this workshop underscore a collective commitment to a more sustainable and interconnected future, setting a benchmark for future initiatives at the intersection of AI, tourism, and rural development.
