The TOURAL project was presented at the 6th Maritime Archaeology Graduate Symposium (MAGS 2025), held from April 2–5, 2025, at the University of Ioannina, Greece. Hosted at the International Centre of Hellenic Education “Stavros Niarchos” in the Dimitrios Glaros Amphitheatre, this year’s MAGS offered an enriching platform for academic exchange in the field of Maritime Archaeology, with a special focus on the eastern Mediterranean.
Organized by the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Ioannina, and supported by the Honor Frost Foundation and the University of Ioannina, the symposium brought together postgraduates, early career researchers, and established scholars to share research, methodologies, and technological innovations in maritime heritage preservation.
The TOURAL project was featured through a poster presentation by Prof. Kalliopi Baika and Aix-Marseille University (AMU) team member Jafar Anbar, highlighting its contribution to the digital transformation of maritime and underwater cultural heritage tourism. The poster emphasized TOURAL’s core mission: the development of immersive, inclusive, and sustainable cultural tourism tools that connect the public with the rich underwater history of the Mediterranean region.
At MAGS 2025, the presentation sparked interest among participants exploring new interdisciplinary approaches to communicating archaeological data and engaging the public in the preservation of submerged heritage.
