The International Black Sea Day, celebrated annually on October 31st, marks the signing of the 1996 Strategic Action Plan by the six coastal states for the rehabilitation and protection of the Black Sea. This day serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard one of Europe’s most vital marine ecosystems.
On 31 October 2025, the TOURAL Project proudly supported a cleanup initiative organized in cooperation with the local NGO “Cu Drag din Sulina”, under the coordination of the Local Action Group “Danube Delta”. The event aimed to promote environmental awareness and sustainable tourism through hands-on community engagement.
Thanks to the dedication of approximately 20 volunteers, the action achieved impressive results by collecting around 1 tone of waste from the less accessible area of Sulina Beach, located beyond the stone pier to the meteorological station. This specific coastal zone often experiences heavy waste accumulation due to sea currents.
The cleanup was carried out with the valuable participation of representatives from:
- The Authority of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve (ARBDD)
- Sulina City Hall
- GAL Delta Dunării / TOURAL Project
- Polaris M Holding Tulcea
- and numerous volunteers and local supporters.
With this action, the Sulina Community reached a remarkable total of 7 tons of waste collected from Sulina Beach through four cleanup initiatives organized in 2025.
The event organizers: Association “Cu Drag din Sulina”, GAL Delta Dunării / TOURAL Project, Sulina City Hall, ARBDD, and Polaris M Holding Tulcea, reaffirmed their commitment to continue this important mission alongside the “Cu Apele Curate” campaign, promoting responsibility and care for the Black Sea Coast.
On the same day, a parallel beach cleanup was held in Sfântu-Gheorghe, where the local community also joined forces to preserve the natural beauty and ecological balance of their coastal area.
