The TOURAL project has successfully taken an important step forward with the establishment of the first Romanian Knowledge Awareness Centre (KAC) – a local Knowledge Awareness Center – in the village of Malcoci, located in the Danube Delta rural area.
The opening event took place on 18 December 2025, hosted by the Association Local Action Group “Danube Delta”. Rather than a traditional centre, the initiative was designed as an accessible and flexible information and awareness point, bringing TOURAL closer to local communities.
The first activity gathered a group of young participants from the Danube Delta region, who showed strong interest in environmental protection and sustainable tourism. The meeting created a dynamic and engaging space for discussion, focusing on:

Participants actively contributed their ideas, highlighting the importance of preserving biodiversity, strengthening community identity, and promoting responsible tourism practices.
The KAC also integrates elements of local natural and cultural heritage, offering visitors a meaningful introduction to the region’s traditions, craftsmanship, and environment.
While the initiative is currently modest in scale, additional improvements are planned in the coming months, including:

This Knowledge Awareness Center marks the beginning of a broader effort to connect communities, raise awareness, and support sustainable tourism development in the Danube Delta.
