Island of Pag / Village Šimuni

Pag is a Croatian island in the northern Adriatic Sea. It is the fifth-largest island of Croatia and the one with the longest coastline. On the island of Pag there are two towns, Pag and Novalja, as well as many smaller villages and places with touristic interest. In the Toural project, two areas are participating as pilot sites: Pag (as rural area) and Šimuni (as remote area).

Pag is the largest town on the island of Pag, with a population of 2,343 (2021) in the urban core and 3,178 in the entire municipality. Šimuni is a small fishing village located on the southwestern side of the island of Pag, halfway between Novalja (11 km) and the town of Pag (12 km), 15 minutes’ drive from the ferry port Žigljen. Šimuni is located in three natural bays. In the northern bay is the ACI Marina Šimuni, which, with 150 berths in the sea and 30 dry berths, provides a safe haven and anchorage for vessels. The central bay is intended for fishing boats, which serve as a port, but also as a place to sell freshly caught fish. It is known for being a perfect place for family summer vacations.
